What types of traffic lights are included?

Article 29 of the Implementation Regulations of the Road Traffic Safety Law of the People's Republic of China stipulates that traffic signal lights are divided into: motor vehicle signal lights, non motor vehicle signal lights, pedestrian crossing signal lights, lane signal lights, direction indicator signal lights, flashing warning signal lights, and road and railway level crossing signal lights.

1. Definition of traffic lights

The traffic signal light consists of red light, green light, and yellow light.

2. Classification of traffic lights

(1) According to their functions, they are divided into: motor vehicle signal lights, non motor vehicle signal lights, pedestrian crossing signal lights, direction indicator signal lights (arrow signal lights), lane signal lights, flashing warning signal lights, and road and railway level crossing signal lights.

(2) According to the control object, it is divided into motor vehicle signal lights, non motor vehicle signal lights, and pedestrian crossing signal lights. At intersections without non motorized vehicle or pedestrian crosswalk signal lights, non motorized vehicles and pedestrians shall comply with the regulations on motor vehicle signal lights.

3. Basic principles of traffic signal lights

(1) When the green light is on, vehicles and pedestrians are allowed to pass, but turning vehicles are not allowed to obstruct the passage of straight vehicles and cleared pedestrians.

(2) When the yellow light is on, vehicles and pedestrians are not allowed to pass, but vehicles that have crossed the stop line and pedestrians that have entered the crosswalk can continue to pass.

(3) When the red light is on, vehicles and pedestrians are not allowed to pass.

(4) Control the lane signal light of the motor vehicle lane. When the green arrow light is on, allow vehicles in this lane to pass in the indicated direction; When the red forked light or red arrow light is on, vehicles in this lane are prohibited from passing.

(5) Control the signal lights at the intersection of roads and railways. When two red lights flash alternately or one red light is on, it indicates that vehicles and pedestrians are prohibited from passing; When the red light goes out, it indicates permission for vehicles and pedestrians to pass.

(6) The arrow direction of the direction indicator signal light that controls the direction of vehicle travel is left, up, and right, indicating left turn, straight ahead, and right turn, respectively.

(7) The flashing warning signal light for warning vehicles and pedestrians is a continuously flashing yellow light, indicating that vehicles and pedestrians should pay attention to watching and passing after confirming safety
